How to Optimize Your Twitter Campaign with Negative Keywords-SocialCentiv UpdateBy now, you’ve probably had the chance to take a look at our newest update in the tool, and we can probably guess what you’re thinking- “THIS IS THE GREATEST THING THAT’S EVER HAPPENED TO ME!” We get it, we feel the same way too. Since it is such an awesome update, we want you to get the absolute most out of it, which is why we have taken the time to explain how to use each feature. This blog post will teach you how to take advantage of the new “negative keywords” feature. This one is especially important, since we have never offered anything like this feature before, so read on for more info.

What are Negative Keywords?

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 1.36.21 PMNegative Keywords are specific words and phrases that you can specify in order to prevent any Tweets containing those words/phrases from pulling into your feed.

Why is this a good thing? There are times that you may enter certain keywords/phrases that you want to look for, but you begin to notice patterns of many irrelevant Tweets that come in from that keyword.

For instance, several of our clients use the word “birthday” to reach out to potential customers about celebrating their birthday with them. However, you wouldn’t believe how many people Tweet about their favorite celebrities’ birthdays. Therefore, in the past, these businesses searching for “birthdays” had to endure seeing all of these Tweets. These businesses can’t exactly reach out to these Tweeters encouraging them to come celebrate Kim Kardashian’s birthday at their establishment, so that creates a lot of irrelevant Tweets for them to sift through. Now, they can simply enter “Kim Kardashian” to exclude any birthday Tweets that also mention Kim Kardashian, increasing the relevancy of the Tweets coming in and decreasing the amount of time it takes to find the right Tweets to respond to.

Once you have logged in and are on your “Tweets” tab within the dashboard, look at the bottom of your far-left column. Here, you will find a section titled None of These Keywords. Simply type in any words/phrases that you would NOT like to see come through your dashboard, and you’re all set!

Note: setting negative Tweets will only affect future Tweets that the SocialCentiv Tweets pulls in, so you may still see these words in past Tweets that have already come in. Need to get rid of those past Tweets as well to save time?

Try this Super User Tip:

You can delete Tweets already in your stream that contain a negative keyword by adding it as a positive keyword and then deleting it. This removes all the current Tweets in your stream that contain that keyword!
